Minnesota Long Term Care Preparedness Toolkit |
Developed for LTC providers in Minnesota, this toolkit can be used by facility owners, administrators, and staff. Information includes: sample templates, forms and suggested resources to develop and/or enhance facility emergency preparedness plans within LTC throughout the state of Minnesota. It should not be viewed as a static document but one that provides a foundation for an All Hazards approach to preparedness, planning, and response activities. While the tool was developed for Minnesota providers, the information provided may serve as a general guide for use by readers in other states. |

National Flood Insurance Program |
The federal National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) offers flood insurance to business owners, homeowners, and renters if their community participates in the NFIP. Participating communities agree to adopt and enforce ordinances that meet or exceed FEMA requirements to reduce the risk of flooding. This resource is a link to the NFIP website with information about the National Flood Insurance Program, including a Risk Profile tool and how to find an insurance agent that offers flood insurance.

National Hurricane Center Potential Storm Surge Flooding Map |
Storm surge is often the greatest threat to life and property and directly accounts for about half of the deaths associated with tropical cyclones in the United States (Rappaport, 2014). In an effort to improve overall awareness and understanding of the storm surge flooding threat, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a Potential Storm Surge Flooding Map (effective 2016) for certain tropical cyclones that affect the East and Gulf Coasts of the United States. The Potential Storm Surge Flooding Map depicts the risk associated with coastal flooding from storm surge associated with tropical cyclones and shows:
-- Geographical areas where inundation from storm surge could occur
-- The heights, above ground, that water could reach in those areas

Nursing Home and Assisted Living Hazard and Vulnerability Analysis Tool |
This Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (HVA) Tool is based on the Kaiser Permanente model, re-designed specifically for nursing homes and assisted living residences. The tool is a downloadable Excel Spreadsheet in which you record your information and it automatically calculates your HVA scores. The HVA provides a systematic approach to recognizing hazards that may affect demand for nursing home or assisted living residences or the center's ability to provide services. The risks associated with each hazard are analyzed to prioritize planning, mitigation, response and recovery activities, and serves as a needs assessment for the Emergency Management program. |

Nursing Homes in Public Health Emergencies special needs and potential roles |
The potential role and question of preparedness on the part of nursing homes has emerged in local and national preparedness discussions. This report presents the findings of a series of focus groups conducted with nursing home staff in five States -- North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Utah -- and Southern California. The purpose of the focus groups was to gauge the level of disaster preparedness and assess the special needs and potential role of nursing homes in the event of bioterrorism or other public health emergencies.
